Mom's Night Out

We all need a break! I don't know about you, but it is surprisingly difficult to find ideas for Moms night out that are more than just chatting while drinking wine and eating from a beautiful charcuterie board (don't get me wrong...I love my wine and charcuterie...but if we are doing cocktails we should probably try adding in something of our faith by trying a recipe from the book, Drinking with the Saints)! Here are some of the things our group has done (admittedly, a lot of our events have involved wine...). So, what are some things that your moms group have done? Our group is always looking for ways to incorporate our faith into mom's night out! So, please share them!

Here are some of the things that our moms group has done, or is planning to do in the near future.

  • Rosary bracelet night: We made rosary bracelets using wire and beads. Each person was able to make one rosary bracelet for themselves. We then made extras to give to our members when they lose a loved one or are going through a hard time. This is a perfect craft to do in October (the month of the rosary) or in May.

  • We met at a local restaurant, Chicken and Pickle, that has pickleball courts. We ended up just ordering food and chatting, but pickleball is a really fun sport that could make for a fun mom's night!

  • Progressive Dinner: This has been a favorite in our group. We begin at one person's home for appetizers, and then go to another member's home for the main course, etc. This year, we are trying to tie this in with our Catholic faith by creating a version of las posadas. It's a perfect way to remember Joseph and Mary going door to door looking for a place to stay.

  • Mom's Sip and See: This was an event where we provided sangria and sweets. This was a kick off event so it wasn't super structured...it was just a meet and mingle.

  • Ask a priest/deacon night: We met with our priest/deacon to ask all kinds of questions about our faith.

  • Make a front door sign: We created wood pumpkin signs for our front doors. However, this could easily be adjusted to reflect our faith. For example, you could paint the Auspice Maria or the fleur de lis symbols and hang it.

  • Wine tasting and tour: We met at a local winery for a tasting and tour. This could be fun to incorporate a talk about the wedding feast in cana!

  • Painting night: We brought in someone to lead us in painting an angel picture

  • Peg doll night: Catholicicing.com has some really cool and very easy to make peg dolls! You can purchase the rights to print off the designs for your parish for a very reasonable price. This is an excellent event to hold in November (for all saints) or for Christmas (handmade Christmas presents for the kids!)! She has peg dolls that are advent saints, saints that go together, resurrection set, and a passion of Christ set. They can be purchased here: Catholic Icing Printables Shop — Catholic Crafts and More for Kids (Note, I am not affiliated with Catholic Icing in anyway...I just love her stuff!)

  • Advent by Candlelight: This is an awesome event!!! We invite all of the women from our parish and neighboring parishes on the Sunday before advent. Women register together by table and coordinate table decorations and food. We give a door prize for the most beautifuly decorated table. A speaker comes and gives a talk that helps us to prepare our hearts for advent. The entire event is held in the dark with candles at all of the tables. We also bring in a speaker from a local charity and we take up donations for them. Past charities have included a domestic abuse center, a crisis pregnancy center, etc.

  • A Marian Garden Terrarium: This is an event we will be hosting in the spring. I am so excited to try this one (It was my friend Pam's idea)! We will be creating table sized Marian terrariums. It will be like a small Mary garden to house a small Mary statue for the home.

  • Freezer meal night: For this night, we have someone buy ingredients in bulk from Costco or Sam's Club. Then we all get together and help to prep the ingredients for freezer meals. Everyone goes home with freezer meals. You can also make extra to keep in the Church freezer for moments when a mom has an emergency and needs something quick and easy to make for her family. This has been one of the most loved events at our Moms Group.

  • Make a Rosary Hanger night: This is an event we will be holding within this next year. We will try to create rosary hangers for our home. I'll update this after we hold our event to let you know what we did and how it went!

  • Mom's Spa Night: We met at a local salon and had pedicures. You'll probably want to call ahead and make reservations though!

  • Bunco Night: Who doesn't love a game of Bunco with friends?!

  • Moms 24 hour retreat: We are hoping to do this sometime this year. We are going to meet up at a local retreat house for a 24 hour retreat.

  • Moms White Elephant Gift exchange around Christmas time

These are just some of the ideas of things we have done or are planning to do. I would love to hear what your group has been doing! Let us know in the comments!

Blessings,

-Jenna
